Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 7 Quarterbacks (QB)

In this space, we will highlight recommended fantasy football waiver wire pickups to consider as candidates for Week Seven of the 2013 fantasy football season, and for your fantasy football rosters.

2013 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 7 Quarterbacks

Nick Foles calling play in 2012Nick Foles - QB, Philadelphia Eagles

The best thing going for Nick Foles in his Week Seven matchup is that he’s playing the Cowboys, who are second in the league in points scored per game at 30.5.  The Eagles are fourth in points scored, averaging 27.7 points per game, so it's very likely that this game will turn into a shootout quickly, with Foles topping last week’s 296-yard performance.  Unlike the turnover-prone Michael Vick, Foles has taken care of the ball, throwing six TDs and zero INTs in 61 pass attempts.  With DeSean Jackson having a terrific year and Shady McCoy an option in the backfield and the flat, look to Foles to exploit his options and turn in a plus game this week.

Ryan Tannehill - QB, Miami Dolphins

In only his second year, Tannehill is displaying the consistency you would expect from a seasoned veteran.  The Dolphins offense runs through him– in five games, he’s thrown the ball at least 34 times and has had at least 236 yards in each game.  With the exception of one poor game against New Orleans, Tannehill has been more than adequate in all his starts.  This week’s matchup against the subpar Buffalo Bills defense is another reason to consider him in a spot start.  The Bills are 27th overall in league defense, allowing an average of 278 passing yards per game.  Tannehill has the chance to top 300 passing yards in this favorable matchup.

Eli Manning - QB, New York Giants

We’re going out on the limb recommending Eli, but his matchup against the 1-4 Vikings is a prime opportunity for him to breakout of his slump.  Eli had the Giants in the game until the final minutes last week, with much credit going to the revived running game that saw Brandon Jacobs rush for more than 100 yards.  If the Giants can continue to balance their offensive attack, Eli will benefit from more favorable passing situations and avoiding all the third-and-longs that have been the Giants' downfall all season.  Since being sacked seven times in Carolina and thrice against KC, the Giants have protected Eli well, permitting only two sacks in the past two games.  This is a cautious recommendation based more on the favorable matchup and the emergence of the Giants' running game than anything else, but it could pay dividends if you need a bye-week fill-in.
