Seahawks Bring Back Geno Smith
3 years agoThe Seattle Seahawks re-signed free agent quarterback Geno Smith to a one-year contract on Thursday. It's a big pay raise for Smith, who could earn up to $7 million in 2022. He will compete with recently acquired Drew Lock for Seattle's starting quarterback gig, created by the offseason trade of Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. The 31-year-old veteran started three games for the Seahawks last year when Wilson was injured. He threw for 702 yards and a 5:1 TD: INT ratio over four games in 2021. It remains to be seen if Seattle will select a signal-caller in the 2022 NFL Draft or possibly trade for Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. If Smith can beat out Lock for the team's starting quarterback spot, he is a low-end QB2 and mainly an option in deep-league/Superflex formats.
