2 years agoWith New York Yankees closer Clay Holmes (back) going on the injured list on Wednesday, the team is expected to use a closer-by-committee approach consisting of relievers Aroldis Chapman and Scott Effross. It's unclear if Holmes, who is expected to return from the 15-day IL when he's eligible, will return to closing duties when he's activated after posting an 8.03 ERA since the start of July. "We'll just kind of put everyone in the best position to be at their best, so it could be a number of guys," manager Aaron Boone said. Chapman has 315 career saves, while Effross, a rookie, has just two, with both coming this year. Lou Trivino has 32 saves since the start of 2021, so he could also be in the mix. It remains to be seen exactly how Boone will handle save chances, but Chapman will likely see most of the opportunities.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
