Darren Waller Could Become Highest-Paid Tight End
2 years agoLas Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller has had a deal in discussion that would make him the highest-paid tight end in the league in terms of at least the new money metric at $16 million per year, according to a league source. Waller is currently in the midst of changing his representation. The expectation is that he'll have a new long-term contract extension before Week 1 against the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers. The 29-year-old has earned a lucrative extension after back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2019 and 2020, but he disappointed last year with only 55 catches for 665 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games played. The addition of No. 1 wideout Davante Adams will take precious targets away from Waller in 2022, and although his fantasy stock has fallen a bit, he remains a top-five target at the position.
