Under The Radar Sunday Studs - Sneaky Week Two Starts

Week Two! Hope you all enjoyed that amazing Thursday night game as much as I did.

Now is the time to find those value players for your Week 2 lineups, playing in great matchups, as you try to surprise your opponents who are hopefully still blindly starting their highest drafted players.

Here’s a look at five under the radar potential studs to consider starting in your lineups for Week 2 of the fantasy football season.

Sneaky Week 2 Fantasy Football Lineup Starts

QB- Ryan Fitzpatrick, NYJ

What the what, Ryan Fitzpatrick? Is he still in the NFL? Not only is the Amish Rifle starting for the Jets, but he was very crisp in the Jets victory over the Browns, throwing for two TDs. In fact, he was good enough to be ranked top five in PFF’s weekly QB rankings.

Fitzpatrick will be taking on a Colts defense that allowed Tyrod Taylor of all people to rack up a 123.8 rating against them. The Colts are also banged up in the secondary. Greg Toler, Darius Butler and D’Joun Smith have all missed practice which may open up some additional passing lanes.

RB- TJ Yeldon, JAX

Yeldon performed very well in his first regular season game, finishing the week as PFF’s 11th rated rusher. He’s running behind a line that ranked third in PFF’s run blocking metrics as well.

But this is less about how sneaky efficient the Jags were running the ball last week and more about how unexpectedly poor the Dolphins were defending against it. The Redskins hammered the Dolphins for 161 yards on the ground. Only the Packers and the Vikings gave up more yards.

WR- Davante Adams, GB

Maybe it was a fluke performance against a tough divisional rival, and maybe we’re learning just how important Kam Chancellor is to their defense, but Seattle showed some holes Week One against the Rams. Nick Foles threw for 276 yards and a touchdown against them, even though he was supported by a running game that can best be described as “horribly inadequate”.

Adams wasn’t Green Bay’s fantasy star of Week One (both James Jones and Randall Cobb caught touchdown passes) but he did receive the most targets. Adams saw eight passes come his way, catching four for 59 yards.

TE- Vernon Davis, SF

After a miserable 2014 campaign, many fantasy players have written off Davis as a serious fantasy option. Davis finished with only 26 catches for 245 yards and 2 TDs. He also averaged a career low 9.4 yards per reception.

There is perhaps, some light at the end of the tunnel however. The six targets Davis saw Week One were his most since Week One last season (when, incidentally, he ended up with 16.4 points). Not coincidentally, it was Davis’s highest point total since that same game. Now he’ll get a chance to roam the middle against a Steelers defense that barely deigned to cover Rob Gronkowski last week. Look for a bounce back performance from Davis.

D/ST- New Orleans Saints

The Saints defense wasn’t anything special in Week One, but frankly, it doesn’t need to be. Tampa Bay’s offense was abysmal against the (admitted underrated) Titans defense. They averaged only 4.3 yards per play for a total of 273. In addition to Winston’s two INTs, the Bucs also fumbled twice, although they managed to recover both. Winston may end up a top tier NFL QB, but for now, he’ll help the opposing side as much as his own.
