Marshawn Lynch Officially Ruled Out, Will Return Next Week

Marshawn Lynch’s availability for Week 5 has been the most discussed fantasy news story of the week, and clarity is finally here. The Seattle Seahawks have officially ruled their star running back out for the big game against the Cincinnati Bengals this week. Lynch has been suffering from calf and hamstring issues, causing the Seahawks to give him another week of rest and recovery time.

Head coach Pete Carroll said Lynch is expected to make his return to the lineup next week following the two-game absence when Seattle hosts the Carolina Panthers. Lynch was apparently very close to playing this week, but the team wanted to take a wisely conservative approach with their best player.

Veteran running back Fred Jackson is listed as questionable with a high-ankle sprain but is expected to play in a pass protection role behind Thomas Rawls. Despite getting the start last week with Lynch out, Rawls failed to impress and will have a tough matchup with the Bengals defense. Seattle will look to rely on the passing game and Russell Wilson’s talent more than their usual gameplan of running the ball. Rawls is nothing more than a RB3 or a weak flex play this week.
