The adage goes that Father Time is undefeated, and on Sunday he claimed another victim. Peyton Manning was simply terrible against the Kansas City Chiefs. The future Hall of Famer threw four interceptions and had absolutely nothing behind his throws. It was so bad that the Broncos turned to backup quarterback Brock Osweiler.
After the game, reports came out that Manning has a partial tear in his plantar fascia and that Osweiler will get the start against the Bears this coming Sunday. It's almost unbelievable to see how far Manning has fallen given his prolonged streak of excellence. Even last year Peyton put up very good numbers. However, there were already warning signs at the end of last season.
At the end of the 2014 campaign, I remember seeing that Manning couldn't fit balls into the tight windows like he used to be able to. His surgeon-like precision was gone. Part of that was that he just didn't have the velocity on the throws anymore, and that let defenders adjust and make plays on the ball.
The sad irony is that Manning broke Brett Favre's record for all time passing yards on the same day that he may have had his last hurrah in the NFL. Obviously it'd be nice to see him play some more and go out on a positive note, but that honestly doesn't look like a strong possibility.
So what does this mean for Denver from a fantasy perspective? Well the defense is still elite and their unit will benefit from Osweiler not floating ducks up there. I also think this is good news for Demaryius Thomas, and Emmanuel Sanders since Osweiler will likely be able to hit both receivers with some big plays. This in turn will help open up the running game for Ronnie Hillman, and yes maybe even C.J. Anderson.
