ANALYSIS: Amir Johnson has kicked off 2016 with a nice little stretch for the Celtics. Over his last five contests, Johnson has averaged 12.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 0.2 steals in 28 minutes per game. The one knock on him is his free throw shooting, but that's not surprising for a big man, and since he only attempts about 1.5 FT per game, it's low impact. He more than compensates for weak shooting from the charity stripe with a high field goal percentage of 56.8 percent, and consistent blocks.
Johnson has had at least one block in every game since the new year began, and, while he wont put up big scoring numbers, he's scored double digit points in his last five games. He plays better when Kelly Olynyk is on the floor over Jared Sullinger, so keep an eye on Olynyk's playing time, but ultimately it appears that Amir Johnson is a solid pickup where available.
