ANALYSIS: With Carmelo Anthony out of commission on Wednesday night in Brooklyn, Derrick Williams stepped up big time for the Knicks. Despite the losing effort, Williams put up a career high 31 points with seven rebounds, and two steals. This performance will likely cement Williams as a primary scorer off the bench for the Knicks, but there will be some inconsistency. It took an injury to Melo for Williams to put up numbers like this, but for those in deeper leagues there is some potential here.

Williams can help free throw percentages because he is an aggressive player who drives to the basket and will get whacked a few times. Just because he does a lot of his scoring in the paint or from mid-range, doesn't mean he can't also drain the occasional shot from three point range. He's no Kristaps Porzingis in that regard, but for someone with power forward eligibility you pretty much take what you can get. The middling rebounding pads his value a bit, but, first and foremost, Williams is a scorer. So if you're desperate for some offense in a deep league, pick him up. Williams also would become a must-add should anything happen to Anthony.
