This just in! Jean Segura has been traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks in a five player deal with the Milwaukee Brewers. His fantasy value was low with the Brewers, as it seemed likely that Orlando Arcia would take over at some point in the season. However, he could now have a chance to return to relevance in Arizona.
Depending on if he bats leadoff or lower in the lineup, Segura could have added value hitting in front of A.J. Pollock and Paul Goldschmidt. Segura's power and plate discipline leave a lot to be desired so what you're hoping for at this point are steals and runs. Segura swiped 25 bags on 31 attempts last season so the speed is still there. However, you can't steal first so he will have to get on base in order to showcase his wheels and reach home plate. Hitting at Chase Field might help his power slightly, as will the trips to Coors Field.
Segura is really only worth mentioning because he plays shortstop so you have to search for any upside you can outside of the top names. Keep an eye on where he is projected to bat in the order, but if you find yourself in need of a shortstop later in the draft Segura might be worth a roll of the dice.
