Jose Fernandez Remains a Top-Five Fantasy Pitcher in 2016

When healthy, Jose Fernandez has the type of stuff that most pitchers dream about. Fernandez stormed onto the major-league stage during his 2013 rookie season where he finished with a 12-6 record, a 2.19 ERA and a .98 WHIP. He also notched 187 strikeouts in 172.2 IP. Unfortunately, Tommy John surgery in 2014 shut Fernandez down after just eight starts and kept him out of the majors for 14 months. But he picked up right where he left off once he returned to the mound in 2015, winning five of his first six decisions and giving the Marlins plenty of hope for 2016.

Fernandez has also proven to be automatic at home. Literally. In September, he became the first pitcher in the modern era to win his first 17 career home decisions. To put into perspective just how exceptional Fernandez is, his only loss of the 2015 season came in his 11th and final start of the year. He finished the year with a 6-1 record. If Fernandez can stay healthy for all of 2016, he should easily be considered a top-five fantasy pitcher.
