Let's be real for a second. Asdrubal Cabrera is not a sexy pick at shortstop by any means. The reality is though that shortstop is basically the top 10 options, and then 50 feet of crap. So say you're fishing at the bottom of the barrel, Cabrera isn't a bad guy to take a flier on in the late rounds.
Cabrera showed promise in 2011 when he hit 25 long balls and 32 doubles, only to have that power vanish. The last five seasons have been majorly disappointing in that sense, especially after his average started taking a dive. However, over the last three months in 2015 Cabrera showed flashes of that power. The move to the Mets should only help his value. He's now part of a lineup that can actually score, and Citi Field is a better hitters' park than Tropicana.
Beware the potential of a platoon with Wilmer Flores, but you could do worse if you are desperate for a shortstop. Just make sure you don't draft him expecting his 2011 numbers and you won't be disappointed.
