Derek Carr Looking Like a QB1 For 2016

The second year signal-caller for the Raiders showed extremely positive signs in 2015, and is poised to be a QB1 caliber player next season. With an arsenal of young playmakers on offense, there's nothing to dislike here.

Derek Carr followed up a decent rookie campaign with almost 4000 passing yards (3987) and 32 passing touchdowns. His completion percentage went up to 61.1% and he only threw 13 interceptions. Carr averaged close to 250 passing yards per game, and eclipsed 300 yards six times. He improved in all possible passing statistics.

Carr would lose some momentum as the season progressed, which is something that fantasy investors will need to see improve in order to feel safe drafting him as a potential QB1. I do think that he will continue to improve though, especially with players like Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree around him. One of the things that held Carr back in 2015 was the lack of a consistent running game.

Latavius Murray ended up accumulating 1066 yards on the ground, but he was highly inconsistent. In fact his entire second half was incredibly pedestrian. Derek Carr was actually the team's second leading rusher. This meant he had to throw more, but it's not a coincidence that Carr struggled as well in the second half once defense could dedicate more attention to stopping him. If the Raiders are able to find a complementary running back for Murray, it can help soften up defenses in 2016 and also open up play action passing.

Even if the Raiders aren't ready to compete for the playoffs in 2016, I see Derek Carr's stock continuing to rise.
