Lamar Miller Has Newfound Fantasy Value In Houston

The Miami Dolphins were a train wreck in 2015, plenty of the blame should be put on the shoulders of the coaching staff for using running back Lamar Miller so poorly. The Dolphins underutilized one of their best offensive weapons, and Miller was wise to jettison the Dolphins for Houston in free agency.

Miller finished last season averaging 4.5 yards per carry and accumulated more than 1,200 yards of offense. His numbers should’ve been much higher, but the inept Dolphins thought they’d find their offense somewhere else. They didn’t.

After head coach Joe Philbin was fired in Week 4, Miller scored a touchdown in four straight games. He has the potential to be a top-10 running back in the NFL, but he would've never been able take his game to the next level in Miami as long as they continued to underutilize him. Though new head coach Adam Gase will bring a new offensive identity to South Beach, the organization as a whole appears to be dysfunctional. Ryan Tannehill is a mediocre quarterback at best, and the Dolphins’ offensive line needs help, even with the arrival of 1st round pick, Laremy Tunsil.

Only 24 years old entering free agency, Miller was quickly courted by the Houston Texans where he will replace the hyper-talented Arian Foster. Consider this: Miller finished the 2015 season with 872 rushing yards despite having six games with less than 10 carries. Blame it on the game plan all you want, but there’s no reason why your star running back finished nearly half the season with less than 10 carries per game.

Rookie running back Jay Ajayi also stole some of Miller’s precious thunder last year, which likely helped make Miller’s decision to leave Miami even easier. Miller wants to be the featured running back, and he'll have no problem being that in Houston where the competition for carries is weak. His 1,100 yard and eight touchdown season in 2014 erased any doubts that he wouldn't be able to thrive in this league, though the Dolphins don’t seem too keen on wanting him to stick around.

I expect a big year from Miller in his first season in a Texans uniform.
