Analysis: Collins was one of the favorite prospects in the draft. He fell a bit because he did not necessarily project as well as others in the draft. He also faced slightly lesser competition at times last season while playing for Wake Forest. He was drafted into a great situation in Atlanta in the middle of the first round.
Collins was one of the most productive players in the NBA Draft this season. He averaged a ridiculous 19.2 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in only 26.6 minutes per game. He was also an efficient big man, shooting 62.4% from the field, although he only tried one three-point shot last season. He also shot a respectable 74.5% from the free throw line.
Collins could eventually start for Atlanta this season. He will likely begin as one of the first bigs off the bench behind Ersan Ilyasova at power forward. Collins showed that he was NBA ready during his time in the Summer League, where he averaged 15.4 points, 9.20 rebounds, and 1.0 assist in only 23.1 minutes per game. He is a dark horse for the Rookie of the Year award.
Bottom Line: Collins will produce points and rebounds. He can also produce blocks if given the minutes. He does not need big minutes to produce most of his stats, though.
