Wil Myers Expected To Play Right Field
7 years agoSan Diego Padres outfielder Wil Myers will take fly balls in right and left field this spring, but the majority of his playing time will be in right field, where he played with the Rays. Outfielders Jose Pirela and Hunter Renfroe will be in competition for the left field job. With the signing of first baseman Eric Hosmer, Myers' move back to the outfield will hurt their overall defense. Myers had a career-worst 27.7 percent strikeout rate in 2017, but his power breakout gains from 2016 remained. Another 30-homer, 20-steal season could be in the cards, and first base and outfield eligibility will be nice for his fantasy owners. Renfroe and Pirela both have real fantasy potential, but a platoon between the two would obviously limit their upside.
