7 years agoNew England Patriots running back Mike Gillislee, who will be battling with Jeremy Hill for a roster spot in training camp, feels healthy, has improved in the passing game and is playing at 216 pounds, which is up slightly from the 212 pounds he was at last fall. Gillislee was signed last year to be the lead back, but Dion Lewis' emergence made him an afterthought, and he had just six carries in the final 11 games of the season. He also dealt with hamstring injuries that held him back at times. "Mike's my biggest back, he's my strongest runner, so I'm going to give him a shot at it first," Pats running backs coach Ivan Fears said in November. "If someone has a chance to run through (a defender) and make a play, he's got a chance to do it." Even if Gillislee beats out Hill, he'll still be behind James White, Rex Burkhead and rookie Sony Michel, meaning he's a long shot to carve out much fantasy value. Leave him on the waiver wire to begin the year.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
