7 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies are interested in Orioles closer Zach Britton and have spoken about him with Orioles officials, according to a major league source. The Phils also like shortstop Manny Machado, but at the moment they find Baltimore's asking price for him to be too steep. Philadelphia's best shot at landing Machado might come in the offseason when he's a free agent. Britton is a two-time All-Star who had 47 saves in 2016. He started this year late due to a ruptured Achilles tendon and hasn't posted great numbers, but he has put up five scoreless innings in his last five outings. Britton would be a good fit in the Phillies bullpen, especially since manager Gabe Kapler hasn't really settled on one reliever in the ninth. Britton's fantasy value would surely be much higher in Philadelphia on a winning team that would give him more opportunities for saves. If Britton were to be traded, Brad Brach would likely close again for the O's.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
