7 years agoColorado Rockies closer Wade Davis figured something out recently about his fastball movement. "Probably a month and a half ago, I was cutting the fastball a lot, especially here [at Coors Field], and I wasn't sure why," Davis said. "I was getting a lot of late right-to-left movement that I had never seen before. That was kind of weird." He's since made corrections from his feet at the onset of his motion that gave him a stride and arm path. Since a blown save on June 17 when he allowed four runs and four walks, Davis has a 1.64 ERA and has held opponents to a .412 OPS in 11 games. He hasn't allowed a runner and has struck out three of the 12 batters he's faced in his last four outings. Davis' velocity has noticeably been in decline for the last several years, and he's also walking a career-high 4.42 per nine innings. He's been extremely fortunate to have just a 3.72 ERA on the year with his opponent's BABIP sitting at a low .225. If he doesn't get the walks down in the second half, he could have many more blowup outings for fantasy owners. Selling him now might be the right move.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
