ANALYSIS: New York Jets running back Bilal Powell has been one of the most productive running backs over the past four seasons, finishing ranked among the top-26 fantasy back's the past two years. He saw his playing time decrease in 2017 as the Jets insisted on playing Matt Forte, which also affected his involvement in the passing game.
The Jets brought in Isaiah Crowell during this past offseason to be their main back, regulating Powell to third-down duties. However, Powell has been the field eight more snaps than Crowell this season and has nearly as many carries through the first three weeks. His snap count has increased to 54% in the last two games. The 30-year-old back is coming off a 73-yard, 14-carry performance against Cleveland in Week 3 -- his best output since Week 16 in 2017. He is currently averaging 4.5 yards per carry and has topped the 60-yard plateau in two of the three weeks this season. Powell also has six receptions, on nine targets, and one touchdown. With a Week 4 matchup against Jacksonville -- which has given up 13 receptions to running backs this season -- upcoming, Powell could be a solid pickup off the waiver wire.
