ANALYSIS: At the start of the 2018 season, it looked like Cleveland Browns rookie running back Nick Chubb had found himself in a backfield that wasn't big enough for him to break out of, with veteran Carlos Hyde operating as the main rusher and Duke Johnson Jr. rating as one of the best receiving backs in the NFL. But with Johnson struggling, there may be room for Chubb to start making an impact.
The rookie touched the ball three times on Sunday against the Raiders, gaining 105 yards and scoring a pair of touchdowns in that limited action. Chubb's explosiveness was on display, and head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley will likely start to work Chubb into the running back rotation more.
Though Chubb's final three years at Georgia didn't feature much usage in the passing game, he did catch 18 passes for 213 yards and a pair of touchdowns during his freshman year with the Bulldogs. The Browns could use him in situations where Johnson has struggled this season while also giving him some of Carlos Hyde's carries. If Chubb is the future of the Browns rushing attack, this is the time for the coaching staff to start to show it with other rookies already having been worked into the lineup. Chubb has a ton of upside if and when he gets a larger share of the touches in this offense.
