6 years agoGreen Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling has a favorable matchup in Week 14 against a vulnerable Atlanta Falcons defense. Valdes-Scantling broke out earlier this year when he filled in for an injured Randall Cobb, averaging 71 yards receiving with two touchdowns from Week 4 to Week 9. However, he has averaged only 18.5 receiving yards per game since and has scored no touchdowns. The drop in production wasn’t caused by a reduced role. Rather, it was from increased attention from opposing defenses. Valdes-Scantling, a tall and speedy player, has difficulty creating separation in one-on-one coverage. There isn’t a schematic change that is going to be able to fix that this year. With wide receiver Jake Kumerow returning from injured reserve, Valdes-Scantling may see his role reduced for the remainder of the season. Valdes-Scantling can become a useful player if he improves his route running in the offseason, so he is worth holding on to in dynasty formats. However, he is too risky of a player to warrant any consideration for use in a fantasy playoff game.--Tyger McGuiggan
