6 years agoTexas Rangers starting pitcher Drew Smyly will face the Houston Astros in Monday's series opener. It will be his first action in the major leagues since 2016 since he was with the Tampa Bay Rays, working his way back from Tommy John surgery in June 2017. The 6-foot-3 southpaw has managed a 31-27 record with a 3.74 ERA across 85 starts and 156 appearances with a 1.199 WHIP. He is still just 29 years old, so he might have plenty left in the tank. However, expect plenty of rust, and look for the Rangers to treat him with kid gloves after such a long layoff. Only fantasy owners desperate for starting pitching in AL-only leagues will want to pay him any mind.--Daniel Dobish
