6 years agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher Mike Fiers was hammered for six earned runs, seven hits and four walks while retiring just five batters in a no-decision against the Houston Astros, his former team, on Sunday. Reliever J.B. Wendelken came on and threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to keep his team in the game. Fiers fell behind early and often, tossing five first-pitch strikes to the 16 batters he faced. He is 1-2 with a 5.94 ERA and 1.56 WHIP through four outings, and opponents are hitting .262 against him. He'll try to rebound on Friday night in the series opener opposite Texas Rangers lefty Drew Smyly.--Daniel Dobish
