Merrill Kelly Nails Down His Third Victory
6 years agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Merrill Kelly allowed one earned run, five hits and two walks with two strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in a victory against the New York Yankees on Wednesday, improving to 3-2 while lowering his ERA to 3.60. He threw 55 of his 90 pitches for strikes and just nine first-pitch strikes to the 22 batters he faced, but he was able to limit the damage. He has managed just three quality starts across six outings this season, but just one in his past four starts. He'll look to go deeper into the game in his next outing on Monday night on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays, the team which drafted him in the eighth round in the 2010 MLB Draft.
