Eric Hosmer Pops Game-Clinching Homer
6 years agoSan Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer went 1-for-3 on Tuesday, cranking his seventh home run against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Hosmer’s two-run blast capped off a sixth inning comeback rally the Padres needed to secure the victory. After troughing with a .516 OPS in mid-April, Hosmer has methodically raised his batting profile to a current slash of .279/.332/.443. While Hosmer only has 16 total extra-base hits and 50 runs-plus-RBI, his Statcast data suggests the plate appearances this season have been modestly better than a disappointing 2018 campaign. While he’ll continue playing everyday and batting cleanup, Hosmer lacks the slugging profile to be a stalwart fantasy first baseman.
