5 years agoTexas Rangers relief pitcher Jose Leclerc (calf) served as the opener on Wednesday in Seattle, allowing a hit and a walk with one strikeout in a scoreless first inning. He turned things over to left-handed starter Drew Smyly and he proceeded to allowed seven runs, eight hits and three walks over his five innings, but he did not factor into the decision. Jesse Chavez, another opener in the past, worked two scoreless frames to pick up the relief win while his ERA fell to 4.11. The best part of this situation was Leclerc making his return after leaving an appearance earlier this week due to cramping in each of his calves.--Daniel Dobish
