Matt Breida Poised For Major Role
5 years agoSan Francisco 49ers running back Matt Breida should have a significant role this season. The team’s unofficial “No. 1” running back was amongst the league leaders with 5.3 yards per carry last season, racking up 1,075 scrimmage yards (261 receiving) on 180 touches. Breida enters Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a near-even snap share with newly signed Tevin Coleman. With the Niners boasting one of the top run blocking units in the league and the Bucs second worst in rushing DVOA last year, both backs should feast in a game that’s projected to reach 50 points. While Breida will be a weekly RB3/flex, consider him a matchup-based RB2 in the season opener.
