4 years agoThe Boston Red Sox pitching staff is in shambles, resulting in manager Ron Roenicke utilizing a bullpen day for Friday’s series opener against the New York Yankees. As a club, the Red Sox have posted a 5.60 ERA this year, the second-worst mark in the American League. Aside from Nathan Eovaldi and Martin Perez, no other pitcher has thrown exclusively as a starter, forcing Roenicke’s hand into a bullpen game against a Yankees club that has produced a Major League-best .813 OPS this season. In addition to the bullpen game Friday, Boston also has a question mark as to who will start Sunday, further complicating the team’s pitching staff organization and making Yankees hitters attractive commodities over the weekend.--Jesse Borek
