BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED: 29% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: What the Panthers are doing should be praised way more than it has this season. They're featuring a new quarterback (Teddy Bridgewater) and also brought a new no. 1 wide receiver (Robby Anderson) yet both have played quite nicely this season while developing a strong rapport already. In case you missed the news, Carolina has been without Christian McCaffrey for virtually all year, too, yet they have kept games close most of the time.
Perhaps the most encouraging part of Carolina's season, though, is the late ascension of WR Curtis Samuel--yes, even with CMC back on the field and getting a ton of usage. That is important because Samuel has been used as a hybrid WR-RB, carrying the ball at least 3 times in five of the last seven games played. Even with CMC back, he logged three more carries this past Sunday.
But we're discussing a wideout here, and that is where racks up the most fantasy points. Just look at this week's performance against KC to get an idea of what we're dealing with: Samuel finished W9 with 9-for-9 receptions and 105 yards while scoring a touchdown (his second of the season). It's been four games in a row breaking the 10-PPR-point barrier, and three straight scoring 17+. This last one was his season-best match so far, reaching 26.8 PPR points and finishing as WR5 (pending MNF).
Even if Samuel losses his rushing edge in favor of CMC, his pass-catching numbers have been great. He's caught 38 of 43 passes this season (88.3%) and logged 45+ receiving yards in four of eight games. All of that, of course, playing the WR3 role behind Robby Anderson and a disappointing D.J. Moore.
With three games still on the schedule before getting on a bye, and all of them against defenses outside of the top-third at preventing WR fantasy points, Samuel should be a WR2/3 must-play in any deeper league, and a superb FLEX-streaming option in shallower formats.
