Sony Michel (RB, NE) - Week 13 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues

ROSTERED: 20% of Leagues

ANALYSIS: If you have any clue about how the Patriots backfield will operate ROS, I'll be waiting for your call. Sony Michel was active this past Sunday, but he barely made it to the field playing just one snap and hitting the waiting list for another week. If everything goes according to plan, Michel should at least be truly available to play in W13 against the Chargers instead of just testing the waters as he did yesterday against Arizona.

Assuming Michel is back in full force... well, no one knows what will happen given this is the Patriots backfield. One thing is for sure, and that is that RB1 Damien Harris should keep playing a ground-only role with James White taking on pass-catching duties. Harris has been targeted four times in eight games, and that won't change. White has carried the ball five times at most in a single game this season, and that shouldn't change either.

With Michel having an old-times RB profile, he will be battling Harris for carries and not getting looked at in pass-plays. We don't have a game this season in which both rushers have shared the field, but in W1-3 Michel led the backfield rushing the ball an average 9 times per game compared to Harris' 14 in W4-12. Not counting this past Sunday's one-snap game for Michel, he would be averaging 9.2 PPR per game compared to Harris' 9.4.

The most-probable outcome here is a split workload for Harris/Michel with White getting all of the targets and the other two rushing the ball. That cuts Michel's upside, and that's why he's only rosterable in deeper leagues and should be a target only for super needy GMs. On the bright side of things, though, New England only faces a top-half defense in Week 14 (LAC, 6th-best) with the other three games into the fantasy season being against the 23rd, 16th, and 20th-best defenses against fantasy RBs.
