4 years agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Caleb Smith struggled on Tuesday afternoon, allowing six runs over two innings in a 7-2 loss to the Padres. Most of the damage occurred in a five-run second inning as he finished the day allowing six earned runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeout. Smith had a poor showing last season that was disguised by a certain amount of luck, as he posted a career-worst 20 percent walk rate while his 100 percent left-on-base rate and his 5.29 xERA suggest he could be in line for some regression this year. He will surely have better performances ahead of him this spring, but for now there's nothing to suggest that managers should consider drafting him higher than his current 338 ADP.--Michael Grennell - RotoBaller
