4 years agoPittsburgh Pirates reliever Carson Fulmer allowed only one hit over two scoreless innings while striking out three on Saturday to earn the win over the Yankees. After surrendering two runs in one inning during his first spring appearance, Fulmer has now allowed only one baserunner and no runs while striking out four in his last three innings. Fulmer has yet to come close to living up to his potential as a former No. 8 overall pick, but he did see a career-best performance in 2020 where he posted a 23.9 percent strikeout rate while lowering his WHIP to 1.258. While the rest of the numbers aren't exactly great the uptick in strikeouts was a positive sign from Fulmer, and as he now enters his age-27 season it's possible more improvement could be in store this year. If Fulmer continues to put up performances like today through the rest of Spring Training, he could end up as a deep sleeper in saves-plus-holds formats.--Michael Grennell - RotoBaller
