4 years agoSan Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kevin Gausman said that he is hardly going to throw his splitter, one of his best pitches, during spring training because it puts a lot of stress on his fingers, per Mercury News' Kerry Crowley. As such, the Giants aren't necessarily worried about Gausman's numbers during his spring training outings. The 30-year-old was pulled in the second inning of Wednesday's start against the Rockies after allowing four of the first five Rockies batters to reach base, but he came back in to pitch a scoreless third inning. Manager Gabe Kapler said, "Kevin Gausman's performance in spring training is more the icing on the cake and not the meat and potatoes right now. We just want to build him up.". Gausman had a solid first season with the Giants in 2020, and both the Giants and fantasy managers are hoping he can continue that this season.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller
