4 years agoBaltimore Orioles relief pitcher Cesar Valdez picked up his second consecutive save in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Red Sox. Valdez entered the game in the ninth inning up by two and got off to a rough start, hitting Marwin Gonzalez and then walking Bobby Dalbec. However, he was able to strand both runners, striking out Franchy Cordero and then retiring the final two hitters to end the game. Valdez has now seen both of the O's save opportunities and has converted them both without allowing a run. Manager Brandon Hyde confirmed late in spring training that the O's will implement a closer by committee approach this season, so it still is possible that Valdez will not be the only reliever in the ninth inning. That being said, it is worth keeping an eye on over the coming games.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller
