4 years agoBaltimore Orioles relief pitcher Cesar Valdez blew his first save of the season in Saturday's 6-4 extra-innings loss to the Red Sox. Valdez came in to pitch the ninth inning up a run. He got the first out, but then allowed back-to-back singles. With runners on first and third, Valdez induced a ground ball to shortstop Freddy Galvis, but the O's were unable to turn what would have been the game-ending double play, allowing the tying run to score. Valdez's final stat line in the inning pitched was one run allowed on two hits and no walks with no strikeouts. The veteran has now converted two of three save opportunities with a 1.69 ERA and five strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings of work. While he has pitched well this season, Valdez owns a career 5.84 ERA, so fantasy managers should be wary of him.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller
