I will be doing these picks for you every Monday and Wednesday going forward this baseball season. Chicago Cubs @ San Diego Padres
O/U: 7.5 | Moneyline: SD -136
CHC: Adbert Alzolay | SD: Ryan Weathers
One of the most underrated pitchers in baseball this year has been Adbert Alzolay. Alzolay is sporting a 3.61 xFIP this season so far and just dominating hitters along the way. This will be his second consecutive start against the Padres, as he went out and threw five innings, allowing just one earned and racking up seven strikeouts against the Friars last Wednesday.
He'll be matched up against Ryan Weathers. Weathers is a guy I haven't really figured out yet this season, as Jarrett Tingler hasn't allowed him to go deeper than five innings so far this year. Weathers surrendered four runs in five innings last Tuesday. I expect a similar result tonight, as the Cubs are seeing southpaw pitching well, logging a .716 wOBA + ISO against them this season.
I feel it's always risky to take action on starters making consecutive starts against the same team, but on a slate with minimal games, I feel like there's some value here. After a hot spell a few weeks ago, the Padres bats have definitely cooled off, too.
Pick: Moneyline - Cubs +0.5 First 5 Innings (-124), FanDuel Sportsbook
Unfortunately, that's all I have for tonight. I use this as a good lesson to newer bettors, as betting becomes more widely available across the country. Do not EVER chase action. Allow value to open up, and your bankroll will thank you. Now, this doesn't mean that this play will be my only of the night, so make sure you check back later in the day for any updates and follow me on Twitter @LucidMediaDFS and I'll tweet out anything else I'll be taking tonight. See ya on Wednesday!
