Nick Madrigal Placed On 60-Day IL With Torn Hamstring
3 years agoChicago White Sox second baseman Nick Madrigal (hamstring) was placed on the 60-day injured list on Thursday with a proximal tear of his right hamstring, the team announced on Twitter. In a corresponding move, the White Sox purchased the contract of outfielder Brian Goodwin from Triple-A Charlotte. Madrigal suffered the injury while running to first base in the seventh inning of Wednesday's game, and now he will be out until the beginning of August at the very earliest. Add in a rehab assignment, and it's entirely possible Madrigal will not return until late August or early September. This is yet another blow to a White Sox squad that has been plagued with injuries this season, as they now lose their rising star second baseman who was slashing .305/.349/.425 with two homers, 21 RBI and 30 runs over 54 games this year. At this point, managers may as well drop Madrigal, as he will not provide much value outside of average and OBP upon his return — assuming he does return this year.
