Yan Gomes Placed On 10-Day IL Saturday
3 years agoWashington Nationals catcher Yan Gomes (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday with a left oblique strain, according to Jesse Dougherty of the Washington Post. Gomes had left Friday's game after he reported feeling something in his side while throwing the ball back to the mound in the second inning. He's put up decent numbers at the plate this year, slashing .266/.320/.439 with eight home runs, 33 RBI and 29 runs scored over 61 games this season. In a corresponding move, the Nationals have purchased the contract of Jakson Reetz from Triple-A, but managers should expect Tres Barrera to likely get the bulk of playing time behind the plate. Barrera picked up the first hits of his career this season, as he is 3-for-9 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored in three games this year. For the moment, managers in need of a replacement should look elsewhere for catching help.
