Darrel Williams Will Compete With Jerick McKinnon For No. 2 Spot
3 years agoKansas City Chiefs running back Darrel Williams was re-signed to a one-year deal this offseason and should be expected to enter training camp as the No. 2 running back behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Williams is more of a pass protector, but he was valuable when Clyde Edwards-Helaire missed the last three games of the season in 2021 and also played a key role in two of the Chiefs three playoff games. Williams finished the season with 139 yards on 39 carries and one touchdown. He also caught 16 balls for 116 yards. Williams will be competing with newcomer, Jerick McKinnon, but Williams offers better pass protection and should have a leg up. If Edwards-Helaire were to miss time, Williams would likely move atop the depth chart with McKinnon becoming the receiving back. Both are worth a look for Edwards-Helaire managers this season.
