3 years agoCincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (forearm) will likely not be able to return until August, according to C. Trent Rosencrans of The Athletic. It had been previously reported that Antone may have been able to return by the end of July, but manager David Bell said that the more realistic timeline has Antone returning in August, with Bell adding that this is not being considered a setback. Antone was placed on the 10-day injured list with right forearm inflammation at the end of June, less than one week after being activated from the IL for the same issue. Managers will likely want to continue to hang on to Antone, who has been one of the Reds' best relievers this year with a 1.87 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 33 2/3 innings of work, and had been in the discussion for the primary closer role. However, the longer Antone is out, the more likely Amir Garrett solidifies himself as the closer even when Antone returns.--Michael Grennell - RotoBaller
