3 years agoSan Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan reiterated on Tuesday that the Niners don't have a quarterback competition, as veteran Jimmy Garoppolo is the team's starter. I four seasons with the Niners, Garoppolo has a 22-8 record as a starter, but he's only played in 31 games over those four seasons. Those injury concerns coupled with Garoppolo throwing just seven touchdowns in his six 2020 starts had the Niners looking for a quarterback in this year's draft, with the team taking North Dakota State's Trey Lance with the third pick. But with Lance coming from the FCS ranks and playing just one game in 2020, this team seems content to stick with Garoppolo for at least one more season barring injury, giving Lance time to develop.
