3 years agoThe Chicago Cubs announced on Tuesday that they have designated relief pitcher Dan Winkler for assignment. Winkler got off to a nice start to the season with a 0.51 ERA on the season entering June, but that's when the train started to fall of the tracks. Winkler had a very rough July with an 8.22 ERA and things didn't get better in August with a 29.45 ERA in six appearances. For the season, Winkler is 1-3 with a 5.22 ERA in 47 games. The veteran is likely to get picked up by another organization as a depth piece, but he should be avoided in all formats. Replacing Winkler on the active roster will be outfielder Michael Hermosillo. Hermosillo, 26, will be making his big-league debut when he steps on the field and was hitting .310 with 10 home runs, 29 RBI and seven RBI in 145 at-bats this season for the Triple-A Cubs. The Cubs are in a complete rebuild, but manager David Ross continues to stick with veteran outfielder Jason Heyward in the lineup and Hermosillo's immediate role is unknown. Managers can safely leave him on the waiver wire for now.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller
