Vladimir Gutierrez Struggles Against Pirates
3 years agoCincinnati Reds right-hander Vladimir Gutierrez struggled in a 9-5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday. Gutierrez allowed five runs over 3 1/3 innings while striking out three and walking one. He gave up back-to-back homers in the first inning and then gave up three more runs in the third. Gutierrez wasn't fooling anyone on Monday as the Pirates were teeing off on him, notching at least a 98.7 MPH exit velocity on batted balls seven times in the rookie's 3 1/3 innings. The right-handed hurler has faded of late, having allowed a 5.97 ERA over his past seven starts. Overall, he has a 9-6 record, 4.53 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 85 strikeouts over 111 1/3 innings of work. Gutierrez is scheduled to take on the Washington Nationals next.
