Maxx Williams (TE, ARI) - Fantasy Football Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team PPR Leagues

OWNED IN: 1% of Leagues

ANALYSIS: Virtually unrostered tight end in all of Yahoo leagues? Check. Potential for a TE1 finish by the end of the season? Double-check. Playing under upcoming 2021 MVP Kyler Murray? Triple-murder-check. Now introducing, out of left field, tight end Maxx Williams from the Arizona Cardinals. Uh, oh. Williams, even with a resounding goose egg in Week 1 though he logged 55 snaps back then for an 81% snap share, has enough PPR points in the other three games played to rank as the TE12 of the season already, which is borderline crazy all things considered.

Maxx Williams is far from the go-to pass-catcher in the Cardinals offense. Not only does Kyler Murray's rushing prowess eat from the target-diet of his receivers, but also a packed unit featuring the likes of DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green was always going to hurt Williams' upside. Or not. Williams has been targeted 16 times this season, and barring his 0-for-1 in W1 he's caught every single pass thrown his way, going 15-for-15 in the past three games for 179 receiving yards combined and one TD (this past Sunday).

The fantasy points have been up and down so far, going from 0.0 to 16.4, 4.9, and lastly 17.6 this Sunday against the Rams. That below-5.0 mark, though low, came on an efficient 3-for-3 for 49 yards day, which isn't that bad when you look at it. Williams is playing for the best-looking quarterback out there four games into the year has proved capable of racking up yards and catching touchdowns, and is a goddam machine at catching every single target he sees. Not penciling him in as a surefire TE1 yet, but he's definitely getting there and would be a lock to make the cut if he can keep up the 5-5-60 baseline on a weekly basis with the sprinkled TD here and there.
