Jaguars Fire Head Coach Urban Meyer
3 years agoThe Jacksonville Jaguars have fired head coach Urban Meyer, ending his tenure with the team after less than a year. Meyer lasted 13 games with Jacksonville and lost more games in 2021 than he did with seven seasons at Ohio State. The constant drama led to his departure, starting in Week 4 when he decided to skip the team flight following a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The Jaguars have lost five straight, and No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence has thrown one touchdown and five interceptions during the losing streak. Jaguars offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell will be the interim head coach for the rest of the four games of the season. "Darrell Bevell will serve as interim head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars for the balance of the 2021 season. Darrell succeeds Urban Meyer," Jaguars owner Shad Khan said in a statement. "After deliberation over many weeks and a thorough analysis of the entirety of Urban's tenure with our team, I am bitterly disappointed to arrive at the conclusion that an immediate change is imperative for everyone. I informed Urban of the change this evening. As I stated in October, regaining our trust and respect was essential. Regrettably, it did not happen. The Jaguars offensive skilled players should see a bump in fantasy with Urban gone, but running back James Robinson is the only must-start option against the Houston Texans in Week 15.
