Deeper League Waiver Wire: AL Edition (Giavotella, Saunders, Lobstein)

Hey RotoBallers. Welcome to my Week 4 rundown of valuable waiver wire options for AL-Only fantasy baseball leagues. It’s always a challenge to stay ahead of the curve in deeper fantasy formats, so it is important to know which players are performing well now and which will play well all season long.

Whether your team is dealing with injuries or lack of production, here are a few waiver wire recommendations to consider picking up or adding to your fantasy teams.

Editor’s Note: for other waiver wire options, check out RotoBaller’s fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups list. It's updated every single day. Our awesome writers bring you analysis on hot or emerging NL-only options, and also all other fantasy positions. You can also download our waiver wire iPhone app for free, and easily stay updated.

Johnny Giavotella (2B, LAA) - 3% Owned

The Angels appear to have found themselves an everyday second baseman in Johnny Giavotella. After playing sparingly for the Royals over the last few seasons, Giavotella is making the most of his opportunity in Los Angeles. He is batting .302 on the season with 8 R, 1 HR and 8 RBI. He has hit safely in seven of his last 10 games and has 7 R, 1 HR and 7 RBI during that stretch. Giavotella is a solid waiver wire option for fantasy owners looking for middle infield help in deeper leagues.

Michael Saunders (OF, TOR) - 2% Owned

The 2015 season started with Michael Saunders on the disabled list. But, the versatile outfielder is back in action for the Jays. Saunders has an impressive mix of speed and power in his first six years with the Mariners. In 2012, Saunders swatted 19 HR with 57 RBI and 21 SB. He only played in 78 games last season but should find his way in the lineup more often in Toronto. Inconsistency has plagued Saunders in his career but the potential for 20 HR and 20 SB is there. He has value as a fourth or fifth outfielder in deep fantasy leagues.

Kyle Lobstein (SP, DET) - 1% Owned

With Justin Verlander sidelined, Kyle Lobstein was only supposed to be a temporary replacement. Instead, Lobstein has impressed in his three starts with a 2-1 record. He has gone deeper into the game in each consecutive start and has yet to allow more than three runs in any game he has pitched. He also has a potent Tigers offense backing him, which should be reflected in his win totals. It remains to be seen if Lobstein will have a starting role when Verlander returns, but he certainly has value until that day comes. There is no official timetable for Verlander yet, which bodes well for Lobstein getting a few more valuable starts.
