Justin Bour Should be Considered a Top-15 First Baseman

Justin Bour only played in 123 games last season, but he made the most of his opportunity. Lost in the fanfare of Giancarlo Stanton, Jose Fernandez and Dee Gordon, Bour is a powerful, left-handed slugger playing first base in Miami. But don’t let the lack of name recognition fool you. He finished 2015 with a .262 average, 23 HR and 73 RBI. His .479 slugging percentage was around the same mark as some notable first basemen, including Albert Pujols, Adrian Gonzalez, Eric Hosmer and Prince Fielder.

Bour’s most successful month was in September when he finished with a .322 average, nine HR and 25 RBI en route to NL Rookie of the Month honors. He finished the season 7th among MLB first basemen with 23 HR, 10 dingers behind first-place Paul Goldschmidt, though Bour played in 30 fewer games. Depite his power, Bour's kryptonite is left-handed pitchers. Last year, he failed to hit a single homer off any southpaw.
