7 years agoThe Los Angeles Chargers have reached out to free-agent tight end Antonio Gates, but it remains unclear if they will re-sign him. Right after Hunter Henry (knee) tore his ACL, speculation began that the Bolts would turn to familiarity at the position in the veteran Gates. “Obviously, Antonio would be a natural fit,” general manager Tom Telesco said on San Diego station 97.3 FM. “He’s someone that we have talked to. We’ve talked to his representatives. Sometimes, it’s not just as easy as saying, ‘Hey, let’s just bring him back. Let’s go.’” Gates turns 38 years old in less than a week and may prefer to sign closer to training camp. His numbers really took a hit last year, but Gates has chemistry with quarterback Philip Rivers and could be a red-zone target. Even if Gates re-signs with the Chargers, he'll be little more than a touchdown-dependant TE2.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
