Clarke Schmidt Lurking As Rotation Replacement

4 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt could be an option for the Yankees rotation in 2020 after he pitched the best ball of his career down the stretch in Double-A in 2019. Schmidt was also shining in spring training and during summer camp before being reassigned to the alternate training site. The 24-year-old right-hander could be a replacement for J.A. Happ if he continues to struggle. He possesses three plus pitches with plenty of movement and has a history of throwing strikes. While he's just the No. 97 prospect at MLB Pipeline, Schmidt shouldn't be ignored if he gets an opportunity at some point this year with the stacked Bombers lineup backing him.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
